As we were in the middle of
driver introductions this past Saturday, a group of kids held
up a banner that read “Go Danny”. They were excited and waved
it with enthusiasm as their favorite driver was introduced.
The kids were really having “Fun”. It got me to thinking…we
need more “Fun”, so fans in the stands it’s your turn. This
Saturday night you need to bring home-made signs to the
track. Late model, grand stock, mini or speedway; it doesn’t
matter. I’ve got some t-shirts and Popeye’s Chicken
certificates and of course some X1-R lubricant to give away.
Remember to be polite with your signs and don’t block anyone’s
view during the races but wave ‘em like heck during
introductions and victory lane. Race teams: if you have a
loyal group of fans in the stands, get them some t-shirts or
hats this week, your sponsor will love you for it.
I was thinking about all
of this on the way home Saturday night. The races had been
highly competitive and the fans seemed to really get into it.
Race fans come to the race track to watch great racing and
cheer for their favorite, that’s called having “Fun” at the
race track. Whether your driver is running second or 11th
you want him (or her) to pass just one more car. “Fun” should
be the main objective when you come to watch a night of
racing. Actually, “Fun” should also be the objective when you
come to race at the race track. Don’t get me wrong, racing is
serious business with lots of money involved and sometimes;
despite someone’s best intentions, you’re just not going to
have a “Fun” night. But, if you come hoping to have a little
“Fun” you’re much more likely to end up doing so.
So race fans; let’s help
our drivers and crews have a little more “Fun” this weekend.
Let’s see some signs and banners. Drivers and crews; let’s
have some “Fun” this weekend, the rest of the stuff will take
care of itself. Maybe this all seems a bit naïve, but I say
let’s give it a try anyway; worse case scenario…we have a
little “Fun”. |
